Measure 3 Candidate Competency

Annual Reporting Measure 3-The following data gives a view of 51ºÚÁÏ’s College of Education Candidates Competency at completion by using  Fall 2022-Spring 2023 PRAXIS II and Teaching of Reading;  Assessment of Student Teaching; Exit Assessment; and E-Portfolio data.

The Candidate E-Portfolio is a collection of artifacts based on experiences provided through course work, field experiences, and clinical practice. The artifacts are matched to the individual skills that meet each of the InTASC Standards. It integrates all of the College of Education’s objectives, as well as, the State of Virginia's Endorsement Competencies.

The student teaching exit assessment is a formal evaluation at the end of clinical practice, assessing teaching skills, dispositions, and preparedness to become a certified teacher. Its purpose is to assist the EPP at 51ºÚÁÏ in gauging our candidates’ readiness to enter the classroom as a fully licensed instructor, as well as, evaluate our programs ability to produce competent, caring, and culturally responsive reflective practitioners that will work to ensure educational justice for all students they interact with.

Exit Assessment Data 24-25

The PRAXIS II Content Knowledge tests measure whether prospective teachers have the standards-relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities believed necessary for competent professional practice. These assessments measure your general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. They feature selected-response and constructed response items. The Praxis® tests are administered through an international network of test centers, which includes Prometric® test centers and Strategic Testing Networks (STNs) located in colleges and universities. All tests are delivered by computer, except for Braille Proficiency (0633), and are offered throughout the year.

PRAXIS II & Teaching of Reading

The Assessment of Student Teaching is a candidate evaluation completed weekly by the Cooperating Teacher. Its purpose is to evaluate a student teacher's pedagogical skills, knowledge, and ability to effectively deliver instruction in a classroom setting, allowing supervisors to identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement to guide their development as future educators. Student assessment enables instructors to measure the effectiveness of their teaching by linking student performance to specific learning objectives based on INTASC Standards.

Measure 4 Hireability of Completers

This measure includes state and EPP-collected data related to completers’ employment in positions aligned with their preparation programs.

Employment data for Spring 2025 graduates are not yet available and therefore are not included in the current reporting cycle. The data presented for 24-25 support the EPP’s efforts to monitor graduate employment outcomes and collect completer feedback.

Employment data for 51ºÚÁÏ (51ºÚÁÏ) initial and advanced program completers are provided by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) through the Teacher Licensure Application process and the Annual Instructional Personnel Activity and Reporting (IPAL) data collection. These data reflect completers employed in Virginia public schools at the time of reporting and do not capture employment outside Virginia or in private or non-school settings.

Initial

AY 2024-25, 52% (14 out of 27) of students completed their program and were recommended for licensure.

Advanced

AY 2024-25:

Educational Leadership: 39% (5 out of 13) of students completed the program and passed the licensure assessment.

School Counseling: 100% (1 out of 1) of students completed the program. The Commonwealth of Virginia does not require a licensure assessment.

*A second credential (advance level) is often not reflected in the VDOE Employer data and therefore, may reflect lower than the actual number of completers obtaining employment.
