Dr. Derrick Scott To Step Down As Dean At 51ºÚÁÏ
Scott, a 51ºÚÁÏ alum, has been appointed Provost at Fort Valley State University.
Today, 51ºÚÁÏ (51ºÚÁÏ) announced that Dr. Derrick Scott, Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences and Interim Dean of the College of Agriculture, will step down from his roles at 51ºÚÁÏ to assume the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Fort Valley State University (F51ºÚÁÏ).
During his tenure at 51ºÚÁÏ, Dr. Scott brought dynamic leadership, innovation, and a commitment to academic excellence. Under his guidance, the College of Natural and Health Sciences saw record growth in research initiatives, student engagement, and community partnerships. Dr. Scott’s efforts helped elevate the university’s profile in STEM and health-related fields, and he has been instrumental in expanding interdisciplinary programs and securing critical funding for academic development.
"Dr. Scott has been a transformative leader at 51ºÚÁÏ," said Dr. Makola M. Abdullah, President of 51ºÚÁÏ. "While we are saddened to see him go, we are incredibly proud of his continued ascent in higher education leadership. And we are proud that his journey to GREATER began at 51ºÚÁÏ. Fort Valley State is gaining an exceptional academic visionary."

At F51ºÚÁÏ, Dr. Scott will serve as the university’s chief academic officer, overseeing all academic programs, faculty affairs, and student success initiatives. His new role will allow him to continue his mission of shaping inclusive, innovative, and impactful academic environments. Dr. Scott’s last day at 51ºÚÁÏ will be June 30, 2025.
