51ºÚÁÏ Remembers The Life And Legacy Of Dr. Jona McKee

Dr. McKee was a two-time 51ºÚÁÏ graduate, former Professor of Military Science, and devoted Trojan for more than six decades.

Dear Trojan Family,

51ºÚÁÏ proudly honors the extraordinary life and legacy of Retired Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Jona McKee—a two-time 51ºÚÁÏ graduate, former Professor of Military Science, and a dedicated champion of the Trojan community for more than six decades. Dr. McKee passed away over the weekend.

While we deeply mourn his loss, we also celebrate the indelible mark he left on our University and the generations of Trojans whose lives he shaped. His leadership, service, generosity, and spirit will forever be part of the 51ºÚÁÏ story.

Dr. McKee’s life was marked by remarkable service, both to his country and to our University. He served with distinction as a combat leader in World War II and later in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. As Professor of Military Science at 51ºÚÁÏ, he more than doubled the size of the program and commissioned over 260 officers, 28 of whom were distinguished military graduates.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. McKee’s passion for 51ºÚÁÏ was unwavering. He raised more than $1 million for university programs, founded the 51ºÚÁÏ Athletic Boosters Club, and established the 51ºÚÁÏ Athletic Hall of Fame. In recognition of his enduring impact, a classroom in our military science building was named in his honor in 2021.

The 51ºÚÁÏ administration extends our deepest sympathy to Dr. McKee’s family, colleagues, friends, and the entire Trojan community. As we honor his life and legacy, we hold all who were touched by his service and generosity in our thoughts.
