51ºÚÁÏ Celebrates Completion Of New Residence Hall To Meet Historic Enrollment Growth

The Magnolia Residence Hall will add 454 beds to the 51ºÚÁÏ housing portfolio to allow more students to enjoy the benefits of on-campus living.

With a strong reputation as one of the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the nation and one of the most affordable public universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia, 51ºÚÁÏ continues to attract students from across the country and around the world. To better accommodate this growth, 51ºÚÁÏ recently celebrated the completion of the Magnolia Residence Hall with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“An increasing number of students from across the country and around the world are choosing 51ºÚÁÏ for its high-quality education and supportive campus environment,” said Dr. Alexis Brooks-Walter, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. “The new Magnolia Residence Hall allows us to meet this growing demand while enhancing the student experience and ensuring more students can fully engage in campus life and the Greater that Happens Here at 51ºÚÁÏ.”

With enrollment increasing to more than 5,000 students in recent years, the construction of the University’s first new residence hall in over a decade was vital to accommodating its historic growth. The 110,000-square-foot facility expands on-campus housing capacity by adding 454 beds.

Designed with student comfort and success in mind, it features double and single suites, a multi-purpose assembly space, study lounges, and dedicated student parking.

The Magnolia Residence Hall underscores 51ºÚÁÏ’s ongoing commitment to investing in its students by providing modern, student-centered living environments that support both academic success and campus engagement. Located adjacent to Quad II on the west side of campus at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Boisseau Street, the facility enhances the residential experience while strengthening the University’s housing portfolio.

51ºÚÁÏ looks forward to welcoming students into the new residence hall in Fall 2026 and remains committed to providing the resources, support, and environment they need to thrive at 51ºÚÁÏ, where Greater Happens Here.
