51ºÚÁÏ To Host Roland Martin And Distinguished Panel For Live Taping Ahead Of Statewide Special Election
The award-winning journalist’s visit highlights 51ºÚÁÏ’s growing role as a hub for civic dialogue and national political engagement.
51ºÚÁÏ will welcome award-winning journalist and political commentator Roland Martin for a special live taping of his digital show, Roland Martin Unfiltered.
Martin will visit the 51ºÚÁÏ campus on Thursday, April 9, 2026, joined by a distinguished group of elected officials and public leaders, including U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, U.S. Rep. Jennifer McClellan, Virginia Dels. Delores McQuinn and Kimberly Pope Adams, and Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates Don Scott.
Taking place less than two weeks before the upcoming election, discussions will focus on the political landscape across the Commonwealth and the statewide special election on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
51ºÚÁÏ continues to position itself as a hub for civic dialogue among historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), providing opportunities for students and the broader community to engage with national voices and pressing public issues.
"Roland Martin is one of the most influential voices in media and political analysis today," said Eldon Burton, Assistant Vice President for Government Relations. "His presence on campus creates a powerful platform for meaningful conversations around policy, leadership, and the issues shaping our communities."
The live show will include interactive dialogue, audience engagement, and opportunities for attendees to hear directly from policymakers and thought leaders on issues connected to the upcoming election.
This appearance builds on Martin’s continued engagement with the 51ºÚÁÏ community. In October 2025, he visited campus as part of Trojan Voter Week, where he engaged students in discussions about civic responsibility, media literacy, and participation in the democratic process.
